Terracing a Sloped Backyard
Tiered walls that turn an unusable slope into level, usable space, with drainage behind each wall so the hill stays where it belongs.

From West Hills lots that fall away behind the house to tight eastside backyards, Portland yards ask a lot of a landscape. We're based just over the hill in Beaverton, so our crews are in Portland every week building patios, walls and drainage that hold up through a full rainy season.

The Portland Standard
We build patios, retaining walls, drainage systems and full outdoor living spaces for Portland homeowners, from the West Hills, Hillsdale and Multnomah Village to Sellwood, Laurelhurst and the inner eastside. The ground changes a lot across the city, and so does the work: hillside lots need walls and grading that manage water, while flat eastside lots usually need every square foot to earn its keep.
What doesn't change is how we start: with what's underground. A patio or wall is only as good as the compacted base under it and the plan for where the water goes in a wet November. Get that right and the finish work lasts. Skip it and you're re-leveling pavers in two years.

5reasons
Most companies talk about design first. We talk about compaction first, because that's the part that decides whether a patio holds up for twenty years or sinks in two.
On sloped Portland lots, a retaining wall is structural, not decorative. We build with proper footing, drain rock and drainage behind the wall so water doesn't push it over time.
We plan where every gallon goes, around foundations, off patios and away from neighbors, so heavy winter rain doesn't turn into standing water or a wet basement.
We're licensed for backflow testing and hold our own permits in Oregon (LCB #9957) and Washington (GCC #OLGUICL807RZ).
The team that designs your project is the team that builds it, from the base and drainage to the irrigation and lighting. Not a sub we handed it off to.

Design · Construct · Maintain
In Portland, most of our work is retaining walls and grading on sloped lots, drainage that keeps winter rain away from the house, and paver patios and covered outdoor spaces that make a smaller yard feel bigger. Design, construct, maintain: that's the whole relationship, not just the install.

Both. We're based in Beaverton, so the West Hills and southwest Portland are close to home, and we regularly work across the eastside too. We also serve Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin, Sherwood, Lake Oswego and SW Washington.
Yes. We're licensed for backflow testing in-house and hold our own permits in both Oregon and Washington, so nothing gets subbed out or delayed waiting on someone else's schedule.
Sometimes. Taller retaining walls, and walls holding back a slope, a driveway or a structure, generally need a permit through the City of Portland, and hillside or landslide-prone lots can carry extra requirements. We pull our own permits and check what your property needs during the estimate.
Usually, yes. We start by finding where the water is actually coming from and where it can legally go, then plan grading, drains or a dry creek bed to move it. The fix depends on your soil and slope, which is why we look before we quote.
It depends on scope. A patio is a different timeline than a full retaining wall and drainage overhaul. We'll walk you through a realistic timeline during your design consultation.
Yes, we offer a 3D design consultation so you can see the layout before construction starts.
If your project involves a taller wall or work on a slope, the City of Portland's permitting and development office is a good starting reference, and we're a good next call.
